Family Pages was an
idea I had several years ago when I was selling yellow page advertising. As
a new mom at the time, I realized that most of the businesses I wanted and
needed as a parent were not listed in the yellow pages or were hard to find.
After speaking with these business owners, it became very clear that most
of them were simply not large enough to be able to afford the high costs of
advertising. These businesses provide awesome services for the family like
classes for kids, specialty stores, small private preschools, private schools,
party entertainment, child photography, and the list goes on to include approximately
120 different categories. I thought how nice it would be to have one directory
specifically for parents that provided an affordable way for these family
focused businesses to reach parents. So, after the birth on my second child,
and an overwhelming desire to be home with my two daughters, I started working
fervently to launch this idea.
Family Pages was created to make your
job as a parent, and mine, a little bit easier, by providing quick and easy
access to all the information we need as parents. No more flipping through
yellow pages or magazines, or mind numbing internet searches. I have done
extensive mind numbing research to try to ensure that every business is included
in each category. If a business is not listed, they may submit their information
to be verified and added promptly.
Family Pages started
with it's first directory in Atlanta, Georgia and as of October 2005 has consistently
received between 45,000 and 60,000 visitors each month for the last year.
New directories are being launched in 20 additional metro areas by the end
of 2005, and another 100 metro areas are planned to be launched by the end
of 2006. Many, many hours have been put into this project, and much more work
is ahead. I have a lot of ideas for improvement, and plans for expansion.
